Intrigued by the increasingly famous Mexican architecture? Discover some of the most iconic buildings and masters! From the turn of the century when Mexico City earned its nickname as the "city of palaces" to the early 20th century movements of art-nouveau and art-déco, the city is steeped in architectural history.

The mid-century era introduced Luis Barragán, a Pritzker and UNESCO awarded architect known for his mastery of light, shade, and color. His influence continues to resonate through the works of his followers. In recent decades, Mexico City has experienced a transformative wave of contemporary architecture, showcasing a blend of brutalist gems, transparent glass and steel structures, and sustainable designs utilizing wood and brick.

Mural painting has a long-standing tradition in Mexico, and the integration of architecture with public art is a hallmark of the city. From Diego Rivera’s notable works and sculptural spaces to contemporary street art and thoughtfully designed parks, the expression of art in public spaces is omnipresent.
